PEI School-Based Partnerships and Initiatives

There are a series of PEI School-Based Partnerships and Initiatives to support student wellness, suicide prevention, support and referral services, mental health and youth activities. 

Student Wellness Ambassador Program (SWAP)

The SWAP initiative is a collaboration between Marin County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services and the Marin County Office of Education. It is designed to promote a County-wide, equity -focused approach to student wellness.

Specifically, SWAP offers:

  • A centralized county-wide coordination, training, and evaluation structure to launch and support Student Wellness Ambassador programs at every middle and high school in the county
  • Robust training for both the Student Wellness Ambassadors and the site-based adult leads
  • An equity-focused recruitment and engagement strategy
  • Youth to youth cross-district relationships, sharing ideas, and getting feedback from other student populations
  • Career Pathways

Mental Health Student Services Act (MHSSA) Innovation Grant

This state program is designed to improve partnerships between county behavioral health departments and local education entities to increase access and coordination of mental health supports on school campuses. This 4 million dollar, 4 year grant will provide Novato and San Rafael schools with funding to hire staff to develop robust coordination systems, peer supports, and school climate initiatives.
