Digital Story Telling in Marin County

Storytelling Programs are designed to raise awareness of mental health, suicide and substance use, create safe and healthy environments for sharing and increase knowledge of community resources.  Participants in the storytelling program, including Opening the World and National Alliance on Mental Illness, have created powerful digital story-telling of those with lived experience with mental illness, substance use, grief, loss, and recovery.

The following videos are simply examples of over twenty different videos created by Opening the World and NAMI-Marin. You can help create awareness of the importance of sharing mental health experiences by sharing these videos at your events or in your campaigns--and inviting those interviewed to speak to members of your community.

Change happens when we see our story in others!

Opening the World

Opening the World is a non-profit program that provides a safe and supportive environment for young adults at risk to share their experiences, be motivated and mentored by peers from similar backgrounds, and explore new experiences through community-building activities, capacity building, and healing interventions. OTW, in partnership with Marin County Prevention and Early Intervention Program (PEI), has created this Digital Mental Health Storytelling Series to encourage youth and adults to share their lived experiences and expertise with social justice and mental health issues. Sharing stories is one way to transform and reframe how we perceive mental health and recovery in our community.
